UPDATE. UK Photography in Britain after 2000

Over its previous two editions, Photomonth in Krakow has brought you presentations of photography by artists from the younger generation - in 2008 this was a showing of selected works by Polish artists, and last year the public got acquainted with the efforts of young Czechs. This year's festival is devoted to British documentary photography, and Updates will be concentrating on the most interesting movements and tendencies in the photography of the Isles. Updates has a new structure this year - the future creators of the British photography scene will be earmarked by the trend-setters: curators, photographers, publishers and art theorists, whose professions demand that they daily keep tabs on the most interesting new phenomena. It is the nominators that will be the crux of this year's Updates: apart from the multimedia displays of the selected photography, the exhibition will feature commentaries by the invited specialists in the form of interviews.

Simon Baker - the first curator of London's Tate and Tate Modern, solely responsible for the photography collections. Baker studied art history at University College in London, where he took his doctorate in 2002. Since 2004 he has been an art history professor at Nottingham University, specialising in the history of photography and surrealism. He is presently head of the Oxford Art Journal publishing group.

Adam Broomberg and Olivier Chanarin - a photographer duo. Their collaboration has borne fruit in six photography publications. They have received numerous awards, including the Vic Odden Award, handed out by the Royal Photographic Society. In the course of this year's Photomonth in Krakow the ZPAF & Co. Gallery will be presenting their solo exhibition: Afterlife.

Charlotte Cotton - director of the National Media Museum in London, onetime curator of the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). In 2005, after her move to the United States, she was guest lecturer at Yale University. She has written numerous texts on art: Imperfect Beauty (2000), Guy Bourdin (2003), Then Things Went Quiet (2003), and the landmark work Photography as Contemporary Art (2005).

Jason Evans - works in artistic and commercial photography. In the 1990s he collaborated with i-D magazine, and worked for fashion magazines around the world. He is interested in ‘music' photography - he has worked together with Trezor Jackson, Fridge, Four tet, Radiohead and Clinic. For Photomonth in Krakow he is curating the Fantasy Realism exhibition.

Gordon MacDonald - director of the Photoworks publication department and editor of Photoworks Magazine, Brighton.

Micheal Mack - director of one of the world's most important contemporary photography publications: SteidlMack, London.

Martin Parr - an outstanding photographer who gained international renown for his unique approach to documentary photography and his contribution to British and world photography. In 1994 he became a member of Magnum Photos. In 2002 the Barbican Art Gallery and National Media Museum organised a large retrospective of his work. He works as a curator for the world's largest photography festivals.

Oliver Richon - a photographer and photography lecturer at the Royal College of Art in London. His photography can be found in the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, Musée d'art moderne de la ville de Paris, The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, and The Brooklyn Museum. He has made numerous albums of photography, including Real Allegories, a retrospective of his twenty years of artistic work.

Aaron Schuman - an American photographer, publisher, writer and curator. Presently lives in Great Britain. He has been an assistant to many great photographers, including Annie Leibovitz and Wolfgang Tillmans. In 2000 he began his own career as a photographer. He lectures at University College in Bournemouth and at the University of Brighton. For this year's Photomonth in Krakow he is preparing an exhibition at the Delikatesy Gallery.
