Andrzej Kramarz. THINGHS
Andrzej Kramarz has been realizing his photo project for two years taking the pictures of things being sold at a small square in Krakow's Grzegorzki district; An area which has for years served as the Sunday meeting place for buying and selling of various things. Old pictures, antique glass and porcelain, stamps, photographs, clocks are changing their owners there.
As Dariusz Czaja - a cultural anthropologist - notices in the book's preface: "The items are for the most part old, obsolete, sometimes desolate objects which look as if they've been pulled out of a dumpster and displayed only in pieces. In a word: that, which is left of a previous life; that, which used to live, and now leads a life after life, sometimes an imagined existence. The lens of the photographer dives into this trivial space dimension with a definite fascination, and records with sensitivity these fragile remainders of daily life, searching for traces of their (non)existence. And to quote Schulz again, "despite [our] better judgement, [we are] drawn to the tawdry charm of the district".
A careful glance appears to be this specific key to the understanding of "Things" which we pass, often without any reflection".
