Memory - a recurring subject, an obsession.

It is photographs of the unknown which are useful in constructing memory. The eye misleads: it registers, but it does not yet comprehend what it sees. Rectangular fields, meandering rivers, shorelines; anonymous geometry of space. We take a view into our possession, but do we understand its meaning? Outside pictures are mute impressions. Only photographs of an intimate space can resound with the voice of specific histories: they order the search for meanings recorded in personal belongings; the appendage of a biography to people's portraits. It is a revision of what was, and an attempt to name what is - a state of passage, somewhere between the tangibility of objects and the unclear outlines of memories.

A flaked negative. Wrinkles.
A dry cactus.

Time is a clear vital axis. Change is written into time: after all, every day everything casts its shadow on earth. Can an image stop time?

Body. Stone.
Bed. Bread.

A meeting leaves a trace in the mind. Faces, situations, emotions return, called by a small, a new acquaintance, an unexpected discovery in the attic of a family home. Associations are generated: everyday objects, once disregarded, gain a new value; meeting someone, who may seem accidental, becomes important.

Sand.

We never come back from our travels the same: we shake off the things we don't want, we harbour others (also deep within ourselves). A question - where do we return, to whom? And what do we leave behind? Language entangles us into a semantic trap... Because a return is not an ordinary arrival. We return to places known and safe, in which we can feel at home if only for a minute.

Loops is not a story about being on the road. It is a story about living.
