CHANGING ROLES

CHANGING ROLES is the photographic project holding a discussion about the civil society, local communities and the importance of solid economy which prefers social objectives to financial profits. Eight photographers - artist from the Imago Mundi Foundation and the Visavis.pl Photographers' Collective and amateurs affiliated with the association ‘j'ARTe' in Mielec are involved into the project.

The CHANGING ROLES project presents individuals who, thanks to  commonly executed  enterprises, have been trying to remedy the problems of social exclusion. These problems are caused by certain conditions such as: unemployment, disability, maladjustment to the ruling conditions in a free play of market sources, where the most important value is the financial profit. Photographers have been documenting people's activities in villages, small towns or housing estates of cities. They are almost everywhere, particularly in places in which there are people who can rely either on themselves or the community they live in. Thus, the project is the sign of an idea of being together, escaping from the state of exclusion and helplessness. The theme restricted to the region of Podkarpackie strengthens the togetherness of message: It is the way people from our region deal with life. The document of social economy reminds us of the micro world and a narrow environment we live in. Photographs amaze us, they sometimes irritate with their simplicity but they express the power of common people, their problems and banal reality. One can pass by indifferent, admire, understand the sign,  or just grimace with disgust.

The initiative of  the ‘j'Arte' association seems to be a perverse confirmation of the idea concluded in the project that people create the culture together.
